Check Out The Kung Fu Grip

Video here.
Last night, Paige played with a toy for the first time (rather, she held and swung it.)

An Outfit From Tony and Carl

Look how big she's getting! At the five weeks old, she's measuring 10 lbs 5 oz.

She Just Wanted to Play

Later that night after that last entry, almost nothing worked to console her. Exhausted, I placed her down on her play mat and laid down on the floor next to her. She then became cool as a cucumber. Appaently, she just wanted to hang out and play. Check out the video of her at 1 AM.

We've Given In

...to the pacifer. We're well aware of the discussion about nipple confusion, tooth devepment, ear infections etc... but we've decided that Paige needs to suck to be happy and comfortable. From the late afternoon to the late evening, she will be comforted by swaddling, white noise, bouncing etc.. but once we put her down, she'll wake up crying again. Sucking, it seems, is a great comfort maintainer. No, we're not shoving the pacifer towards her to shut her up, rather we're using it as an adjunct to all the other means of making her comfortable and happy. Hopefully, we don't become addicted to it. Ask us in 3 months.

Is It The Swing?

As per usual, Paige was fussy at 11:00 PM. After a little comforting, she fell asleep and I put her in the swing. I went to put my head down on the couch next to her. The next thing I know, I awaken to the sound of her squeaking (she makes these sounds before a full-on cry), and the clock says 4:44 AM. That's the longest stretch she's gone without crying. I changed her extremely soaked diaper and fed her previously pumped breast milk, then I went upstairs to put her in the bassinet next to our bed. Megan later woke up to change and feed her, and to her surprise it was around 8 AM. By far it was the first full nights sleep my wife has had since May 5th. Was it the swing? I always play my iTunes library to comfort Paige, and she slept through about 79 songs. Maybe she's learned to be comforted by music. Or maybe she's bored by indie rock.

(Almost) Four Week Photo Update
